Our 2009 JO opening ceremony welcomes junior athletes
and an introduction of teams and coaches. Nick Sterling will introduce our effort this year to “green” up this event and also introduce our opening ceremony guest speaker, Alison Gannett, world champion big mountain freeskier and founder of “Save our Snows” foundation. Alison’s presentation is sponsored by THE SIERRA BUSINESS COUNCIL. Alison will present her awe inspiring ski adventure movie and slides while showcasing impacts and solutions to climate change. Hot chocolate sponsored by Truckee Book and Bean.
MONDAY, MARCH 9th PARENT SOCIAL: Western Ski Sport Museum
3 pm to 4:30 pm
Auburn Ski Club's Western Ski Sport Museum
Located adjacent to the Boreal Lodge just 1/4 mile west of the JO venue. All JO parents are invited to tour the Ski Sport museum with appetizers and beer and wine. Music by FW Senior skier Ian Case. Slide presentation by Dave Antonucci, California State Parks, on the history of the 1960 Olympic Nordic Competition Trails at Lake Tahoe.

Cottonwood Restaurant overlooks historic downtown Truckee and will be offering happy hour drinks and discounted dinner to parents and coaches of the 2009 Junior Olympics.
TUESDAY, MARCH 10th PARENT OUTING: Donner State Park
Donner State Park Museum
East end of Donner Lake
9 am - 4 pm
All parents welcome to visit the State Park Museum and to ski groomed trails. Museum showing two movies, “Snow on the Run”, a film on the Southern Pacific railroad’s efforts to clear tracks during the big winters of the 1950’s, and “The Longest Winter,” a film about the Donner Party. $7 Parking fee.

700 N. Lake Blvd., Tahoe City
Tahoe City Marina, on the shore of North Lake Tahoe. Research boat excursion on Lake Tahoe with hands on demonstration of studies of Lake Tahoe. Two tours scheduled, limited to 15 people each tour. $20/person. Sign up at the JO venue merchandising table.
THURSDAY, MARCH 12th PARENT OUTING: 1960 OLYMPIC XC SKI TRAILS
3 pm to 5 pm
Sugar Pine Point State Park
7630 W. Lake Blvd.
West Shore of Lake Tahoe
Guided ski tour and interpretative talk about the 1960 XC ski trails and history of the area. The 1960 Olympic trails have recently been “rediscovered” and marked for skiing. Included is a visit to the biathlon site. Limited to 15 people. $10/person $7/parking fee. Sign up at the JO venue merchandising table.
FRIDAY, MARCH 13th PARENT OUTING: FUTURE of the XC ATHLETE DISCUSSION

A group discussion titled, “The Athlete: Where To Go From Here”, led by Far West Coach Jeff Schloss, Ian Case, various college athletes.

Final Awards and Dance: Everyone is invited to the Awards Ceremony. Awards for both the Classic and Classic Relay competitions will be presented. Also presented is the National High School and USSA JO Club awards, the Dave Quinn award (recognizing the athlete who best exemplifies the ideals of XC ski racing), and the Alaska Cup divisional award. Directly after the awards ceremony, the athletes will move to the concluding dance featuring DJ ONE TRUEST.
